Carsten Ehrhardt is Professor of Pharmaceutics and Biopharmaceutics and Director of Global Engagement at the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Trinity College Dublin. He was elected Fellow of Trinity College Dublin (2013) and, in 2025, of both the International Society for Aerosols in Medicine and the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists. His research focuses on drug disposition and transport in the lungs, using advanced in vitro and ex vivo models, with additional interests in the molecular basis of airway diseases and antimicrobial therapies for lung infections. Carsten has authored 118 peer-reviewed publications and one edited book. He serves as Associate Editor of Journal of Aerosol Medicine and Pulmonary Drug Delivery and Section Editor of European Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, and sits on the editorial advisory boards of European Journal of Pharmaceutics and Biopharmaceutics, Pharmaceutics, and Pharmaceutical Research. He is also a member of the inhalation-based Biopharmaceutics Classification System (iBCS) initiative and founded the PDD Workshop series in 2013, now held annually in Dublin and Istanbul.
