Prof. Keith Murphy is Professor of Neuropharmacology in the UCD School of Biomolecular and Biomedical Science and a principal investigator in the UCD Conway Institute. Prof. Murphy’s research group, the Neurotherapeutics Research Group, is dedicated to the identification of novel drug targets for the treatment of neurological and neurodegenerative diseases such as schizophrenia, depression, addiction, Alzheimer’s disease and multiple sclerosis. Prof. Murphy brings several different approaches together to address this challenge including animal models of behaviour, in vivo site-directed interruption of function, human brain organoids, in vitro cell and slice culture techniques, transcriptomics and proteomics. Professor Murphy's research has led to the formation of several spinout companies that focus on the development of novel treatments for multiple sclerosis and drug addiction. At UCD, Prof. Murphy contributes to teaching and mentoring at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, promoting research excellence and collaboration across the biomedical sciences community.
