Prof. William Gallagher, BSc PhD CBiol MSB, Professor of Cancer Biology in the UCD School of Biomolecular & Biomedical Science, UCD Conway Institute at University College Dublin and a leading figure in translational oncology innovation. A results-driven academic and entrepreneur, he currently serves as the Deputy Director of Precision Oncology Ireland (POI), a national Strategic Partnership Programme focused on developing next-generation diagnostics and treatment strategies for cancer. Prof. Gallagher previously directed the prestigious UCD Conway Institute of Biomolecular and Biomedical Research (2016-2021) and is a key Co-lead for the emerging All-Island Cancer Research Institute, demonstrating his commitment to large-scale, collaborative research delivery. With a core focus on translating complex transcriptomic and proteomic data into clinically relevant biomarker assays for breast and prostate cancer, his translational expertise is evidenced by his role as Co-founder and Chief Scientific Officer of OncoAssure Ltd. In 2021, another molecular diagnostics company that he co-founded, OncoMark Ltd., was acquired in 2021 by Danaher Corp. His success in attracting funding is unparalleled, having secured over €80 million since 1999. This includes coordination of major EU framework initiatives and the Irish Cancer Society Collaborative Cancer Research Centre BREAST-PREDICT, ensuring our research delivers assertive, real-world impact for the life sciences sector in Ireland.
