Dr Araz Raoof, Executive Director of the ARC Hub for Therapeutics, joined the Pharma Conversations Podcast to discuss Ireland’s therapeutics innovation landscape and the role of the ARC Hub in helping translate promising research into impact.
During the conversation, Araz shared insights into the development of the ARC Hub for Therapeutics and its role in bringing together expertise from across Ireland’s research and innovation ecosystem to support the translation of therapeutics research.
The conversation covered some of the opportunities and challenges facing Ireland’s therapeutics sector, including the journey from academic discovery towards commercialisation, the importance of collaboration across universities, industry and the wider innovation community, and the need to build stronger pathways for promising research to progress.
Araz also discussed the ARC Hub’s growing portfolio of therapeutics projects across multiple disease areas and modalities, and how the Hub is working with researchers and partners to strengthen the translational potential of innovative research.
The conversation looked more broadly at Ireland’s position within the international therapeutics and biopharma landscape, including opportunities to build on the country’s existing strengths and further develop its indigenous biotech ecosystem.
Another important theme was the next generation of researchers and innovators. Araz highlighted opportunities for students and early-career researchers to engage with translational research and develop a greater understanding of the scientific, commercial and collaborative expertise required to bring new therapeutics closer to patients.
